South Putuo Buddhist Temple

As the famous temple in Xiamen, South Putuo Buddhist Temple lies at front of renowned Mountain, Wulaofeng, facing the blue harbor and standing on the back of peculiar hills. It was built in the late Tang Dynasty (over 1000 years old). Afterwards, the temple had been rebuilt and extended for many times. At the beginning of Republic of China (1920S), the temple had 3 main halls and 7 affiliated halls, covering a total area of 21,270 sq.m. which made it well-known in Fujian Province.

The whole temple is scattered along the central axis. All the buildings are designed   with the palace style which makes it grandeur and solemnity. Besides, the thousand-year-old temple left people many cultural heritages inclusive of cliff carvings, celebrating stele, historic Buddhist statues and Buddhist Pagoda.
