50 Mo Gan Shan Rd

Locating on the right side of the bank of the Suzhou River, it is famos as a cultural innovation industry zoon which accommodated about 130 artists who come from over 10 Chinese mainland provinces and 16 foreign countries and districts. It was once known as the Shanghai Chun ming Rove Factory, The site was founded in 1917 and is currently filled with industrial architecture dating from the 1930’s to the 1990’s. In 1999, artist Ding Yi rented a warehouse at 1131 Suzhou Rd West for his art studio, and Xue Song opened a studio at 50 Mo Gan shan Rd in 2000. Soon later, “Biz Art Center”, “Shanghai Art Gallery”, and “East link gallery” were established here one after another, and the area changed its name to Chun ming Art Industrial Park. It is doubtless that this warehouse occupies a preeminent position in the mainstream of Shanghai art.

As you walk through the warehouse complex, you will notice signs leading you to different artist studios and exhibits the painter’s works. The price of each piece of art varies according to its size and dimensions; though, artists will let you browse even if you do not plan on buying anything. Some studios also sell albums of their works so that you can gain a more comprehensive understanding of the creative trends among cutting edge artists. Aside from the art collections found here, the factory had some ancient machinery that is worth taking a look at. In building number five, you can fid some motley 1930’s era German power distribution equipment made by Siemens. This dust covered industrial equipment is a type of living history----a rather amorphous type of avant-garde artwork, neither artificial nor affected, with a cloak of realism and tinge of artistic flavor.
