People's Square

 

The People’s Square, the heart of the city, is a famous garden square combining administration, culture, transportation and commerce as a whole. Around the square, there are many famous buildings, such as, the Shanghai people’s government in the north, Shanghai Grand Theatre in the northwest, Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Centre in the northeast and Shanghai Museum in the south. On each side, there is a 17m-width green belt. The whole square covers an area of 140,000 sq. m. It used to be a venue of march for the citizens. In 1988, the metro project was under construction, meanwhile, the square was developed into a culture and political center of Shanghai. Now, it is not only a city center, but also the hub for transportation system.
