Mt. Jiuhua

Hua Cheng Temple

Hua cheng Temple was firstly built in 757 AD of the Tang Dynasty (618-907), locating in heart position of Mt.Jiu Hua. It is the mother temple of all the hundreds of temples in the mountain. The temple had ever been destroyed by fires for many times. Most part of the buildings now were rebuilt in the reign of Guang Xu of Qing dynasty (1875-1909).But Can Jing Pavilion were built in the sixteen century.

The architecture in the temple is designed with the typical Chinese style. Except the walls and roofs, all the other sections of the buildings are made of wood without a nail. The temples, with fairly low ceilings, are all intricately carved and unique, so that every lintel, beam bracket and beam is decorated with various dragons and Buddhist entities. Ancient horizontal boards with excellent calligraphy throughout the temple were from emperors of both Ming and Qing Dynasties which were the precious treasures of the temple.
