The Hanshan Temple

 


The temple lies in Fengqiao town, 5 km away from the west gate of the downtown of Suzhou. It was built in Liang dynasty (502 A.D.-519 A.D.) over 1400 years ago. It was firstly called Hanshan temple in Zhenguan reign of Tang dynasty. In its history, the temple was destroyed for 7 times by fire or other means. But it was considered as one of the most famous temples in China in ancient time. In the temple, there are many relic sites inclusive of stone carvings, monument inscriptions, calligraphy inscriptions and ancient religious buildings.
