Elephant Trunk Hill

Elephant Trunk Hill was firstly called Li Hill, locating at the joint of Taohua River and  Li River. For its elephant trunk-like shape, it became the landmark of Guilin. The hill is 200m high, 55m above the water surface, covering an area of 1.3 hectare. It consists of limestone which dates back over 360 million years ago.

Water and Moon Cave, between the trunk and leg of elephant, is very popular in the  hill since Tang dynasty. The cave is 17m long, 9,5m wide and 12m high, covering a total area of 150 sq.m. In the night, the moon, the river and the cave, make a fantastic picture which has been greatly appreciated by the scholars and poets in ancient China.
