Da Ming Temple

 

 


 
Locating in the middle peak of Shugang scenic area in the suburban area of Yangzhou, Da Ming temple was considered as a top attraction of the city in the ancient time. It was firstly built in the southern dynasties (457A.D.-464 A.D.).

 
It became famous in Tian Bao reign of Tang dynasty (743 A.D.-753 A.D.). A senior monk of Daming temple- Master Jian Zhen was invited by the Japanese Monks to promote the Buddhism in Japan. After 1o years’ effort, Master Jian zhen successfully took a boat and arrived at Japan. During his time in Japan, he helped the Japanese fellows develop the Buddhism and its study as well as created a new era for the friendship and cultural exchange between Chinese and Japanese. Since then, Da Ming Temple has trained a large number of eminent monks which made the temple a famous interest both for the religious people and travelers. From the emperor to the common people, or the travelers both from home and abroad, they all like to visit the Da Ming temple for the first arrival time in Yangzhou.
 
Da Ming temple is a famous scenic spot with Buddhist temple、cultural relics and garden views. It is now an important cultural heritage of Yangzhou under national protection and becomes a national AAAA scenic zone.
