As one of the key cities in the Yangtze River Delta, Suzhou is a renowned cultural, historic and tourist city, as well as top five most beautiful city districts in China" ,ranked by China National Geography Magazine. During the past 2500 yeas, the location of Suzhou city has never changed. Streets wind along the riverside; double chess-board structural system, waterside alleyways and narrow bridges formed the outlines of the city, with pagodas loom in the distance. Classical gardens, houses crouching across the rivers, make Suzhou an idyllic landscape painting.
To visit this ancient town, driving around is absolutely nice, however walking through is definitely more interesting. Let’s walk along the canal, touch the whitewashed walls, pass the ancient bridges, talk to the locals and follow the beautiful girl in silk costumes and with parasol. |

Itinerary:
Day 1 (L)
Meet the guide and drive to Suzhou (1.5hours), upon arrival, visit Garden of Masters of Nets — the oldest and finest example of classical garden in Suzhou, then come out the exit on Shiquan Old Street to start the walking tour, the tour is in total about 1.5 hours, passing by historical sites like old Suzhou Weaving Bureau , Double Pagoda, Kunqu Theatre, Ping-tan story telling tea house, as well as boutique shops for antiques and handicrafts, local snack strolls. Most of the walking will be along the ancient canals, through narrow alleys, across bluestone bridges.
About lunchtime, arrive at the Pingjiang Lodge for hotel check-in, the hotel it self is an old house of 450 years, typical Suzhou old style, have lunch at the same place, then in the afternoon, walk through the old streets to visit the Garden of Cultivation, which is not known to most of the tourists but still ranked as top gardens in Suzhou. Then the walking tour continues to Mountain Villa with Embracing Beauty, the garden is famous for a unique rockery hill, and has the Institute of Embroidery located. End of walking tour.
Dinner is open and free evening on the Pingjiang old street.
Day 2 (B, L)
Visit Tiger Hill, have a learning tour about Chinese Bonsais. During the visit, Bonsai masters will give information about Bonsais in Suzhou, which has long history and tradition for Bonsai art. The tour combines visit to the Leaning Pagoda with over 1000 year’s history as well. Then take a stop at Shantang canal area to have a free walk. Drive back to Shanghai after lunch.
