Sanya
City Introduction

Located in the tropical area at the southern end of China, Hainan is warm all year round and has no winter. Besides, it boasts soft beaches and beautiful tropical scenery, which make it a famous holiday resort in China. The whole province occupies a land area of 35,000 square kilometers (13,510 square miles) and a sea area of 2,000,000 square kilometers (772,000 square miles).

Belonging to the northern part of the tropics and virtually at the same latitude as Hawaii, Hainan has a tropical monsoon climate and is known as the 'Eastern Hawaii' .

Sanya is the southernmost city in Hainan province. It covers an area of 1919.6 sq. km. with a population of 536,000. Sanya has a total coastline of 209 km, 19 bars, 40 islets and 10 islands.

The original name of Sanya was Yazhou (literally means cliff state). Its history could date back to Qin Dynasty (221 BC - 206 BC). Since then, it has been always within the territory of China. Being the ultima Thule of China, it is remote from the capital. Some prime ministers in various dynasties were exiled here and an enlightened monk named Jianzhen accidentally sailed here and used this place as one of his harbors for his long Buddhism-missionary journey to Japan. They brought over the advanced culture, contributed to the local development and made the remote area well-known in China. In recent years, Sanya was rapidly developed into a getaway from Hong Kong and a relaxing place for extending a holiday without a long trip back home. The first international resort hotel was opened and managed by Swiss hotelier N.C. Solari in 1999, in Yalong Bay. Later, many international train deluxe hotels landed in Sanya inclusive of 4 stars and 5 stars hotels and resorts. You will enjoy not only the fascinating scenery, but also the comfortable hotel facilities and considerate service.
